Frequent Flyer Miles

If There’s An Empty Seat, It’s Always Next to Me.

I fly, a lot. Today, I’m sharing my secret to in-flight happiness; the coveted empty seat.

When choosing seats, I have a method. Below is a copy of a typical seating chart. Red indicates Taken, White indicates available. First, pick a seat and we’ll see what I think.

Where should you sit? I’ve colored other seats in black that you might consider taking.

Step 1. Choose a seat in the back of the plane.

Step 2. Choose a row where the window or aisle seat is already taken. Don’t choose an empty row. Couples will be happy to find two seats together and will foil your plans.

Step 3. Think. Is the empty seat next to me the last place where anybody would want to sit?

Step 4. Check Seat Guru to make sure your seat has no major flaws.

Step 5. Confirm. As your flight date approaches, login to make sure you’re still in the clear. At check-in, ask the airline.

So, which seat did you choose? I take the yellow seat above, with the giant arrow pointing to it.

Happy travels!
